FD500 questions, answered
The FD500 comes with 5 trays, and the maximum depends on what you are drying: up to 15 trays for herbs and flowers, up to 12 for fruit, vegetables and beef jerky, and up to 10 for fruit roll-ups, meals or soups. Buy extra trays any time and stack them straight on top — there is no need to upgrade the base unit.
The FD500 solid sheet and mesh sheet are both 315mm in diameter. Note this is smaller than the FD1000 sheets (345mm), so the two are not interchangeable.
About 0.25 kWh an hour, since the element only runs for part of each cycle. A typical 10-hour drying session uses about 2.5 kWh — apply your local electricity rate to work out the cost.
Both use the same horizontal airflow design and food-safe materials. The FD500 is 500W and expands to 15 trays, a great everyday size for families. The FD1000 is 1000W, expands to 30 trays, and suits big harvests and bulk drying. FD500 and FD1000 accessories are not interchangeable.
No. The FD500's heated airflow system dries every tray evenly from top to bottom, so there is no need to swap or rotate trays partway through a batch.
